As part of an updated stream maintenance plan for the City of San Ramon, Balance Hydrologics assessed the geomorphic conditions of South San Ramon Creek and its tributaries. Our effort concentrated on evaluating the existing channel roughness conditions in relation to those used for recent flood capacity calculations. We found that several segments of the flood control channel could incorporate some vegetation without exceeding the design roughness values. Allowing revegetation within these reaches would provide benefits to habitat and erosion resistance, while still meeting the necessary capacity for flood control and providing for fewer ongoing impacts to South San Ramon Creek and its tributaries.
