GEOMORPHOLOGIST/ QUANTITATIVE PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHER/STRONG GEOLOGY BACKGROUND

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, designs and monitors channel and wetland restoration/creation efforts. Assignments include identifying sources of sediment or channel instability; then, recommending approaches and means to implement restoration. Rigorous training in fluvial geomorphology, sedimentology, and/or sediment transport sought. Facility with environmental-impact, water-quality, water-rights, and wetlands regulations will be expected and will develop as part of this position. Basic GIS skills are required; advance skills are helpful.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Strong geologic background and familiarity with standard hydrologic and water-quality databases are highly desirable, as experience in quantifying surface/ground water exchange. Experience with quantitative aerial-photograph interpretation/remote sensing a plus.

We expect that the successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, with a penchant for educating knowledgeable non-geomorphologists. This person will have a record of community service, preferably using their scientific skills, and will have evidence of successful and sustained accomplishment as part of a group. Demonstrated affinity for storm-related field work required, as is the ability to develop and present proactive approaches at meetings and hearings. Most projects involve substantial work with biological and land-planning specialists who work with other firms or entities.

This position requires a minimum of 3 years of professional experience, plus evidence of research and publication potential. It can also filled at a much more senior level.

All positions involve substantial habitat-protection work; hence, an affinity for complex and multi-disciplinary efforts is essential. Compensation commensurate with background and responsibilities. Excellent benefits.

Habitat-Restoration Design Geoscientist

Balance Hydrologics, a 30-person firm based in Berkeley, seeks an Engineering Geologist or Geotechnical Engineer seeking to focus their practice on habitat evaluation and restoration. Challenges include channel and coastal stabilization, recharge augmentation, seepage control and construction de-watering, fish passage, and diverse habitat-management and -mitigation planning questions.

Applicant should be interested in interdisciplinary projects and in publishing their work.

This position can be filled at staff, project, or more senior level, at either our Berkeley or Auburn offices.
